Northern Railway Announces Extensive Train Cancellations and Diversions Due to Connectivity Project at Palwal Station

New Delhi, August 16, 2024 — Northern Railway has announced a significant operational change at Palwal station (PWL) due to the ongoing BNI/NI program, which aims to establish rail connectivity between Palwal station on Indian Railways (IR) and the new Prithla (DFCC) yard under the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL).

The BNI (Block Non-Interlocked) and NI (Non-Interlocked) programs, scheduled to take place from August 29 to September 17, 2024, will necessitate a series of train cancellations, short terminations, originations, and diversions to facilitate the project.

Operational Impact Overview

• Train Cancellations: A total of 70 passenger trains, including EMUs, Mail, Express, and Superfast trains, will be canceled during the BNI and NI period. Notable cancellations include the Gatimaan Express (Train No. 12049/50), Taj Express (Train No. 12279/80), and the Golden Temple Mail (Train No. 12903/04). • Short Termination and Origination: Several trains will be short terminated or originated at different stations. For instance, the New Delhi-Palwal EMU (Train No. 4440) will be short terminated at Faridabad (FDB), and the Palwal-Ghaziabad EMU (Train No. 4911) will be short originated from Ballabhgarh (BVH).

• Train Diversions: Multiple trains will be diverted via alternative routes to bypass the affected section. For example, the CSMT-Firozpur Cantonment Superfast Express (Train No. 12137/38) will be diverted via Mathura Junction (MTJ), Alwar (AWR), Rewari (RE), and Ambala (ABO) during this period.

• Freight Operations: Freight services will also be impacted, with specific mitigation strategies in place to handle the disruptions. Daily 03 DN goods and 02 UP goods will be diverted via Agra-Jhansi (JAB) route, and additional trains will be rerouted via Gangapur City-Dausa section, among other adjustments.
