I went to Mailani in november last year and it wasn't a great experience (not the train and loco) but there's no hotel or homestay so you'll face great problems and you'll also facing food shortage while you are in the train but trust me the level of nostalgia is insane and it was worth it but if you go to Mailani , please plan early as possible.
